Play online chess on a Kindle, rated, no jailbreak

A Kindle can play real online chess against other people, with a rating, straight from its stock browser.

How it works

KindleHub's Games screen has an Online tab: "Play online, against somebody on another device". Pick Chess there and invite another KindleHub player; the game starts when they accept.

Chess is turn-based, which is exactly what e-ink is good at: only the squares that change get redrawn, so the screen does not flash between moves. You can also play the computer offline from the same Chess app.

Ratings

Online games are rated and your rating moves after each one. To keep ratings honest, a game only counts when both accounts are at least 3 days old, each side has made at least 8 moves, and the two players are on different devices. Your rating updates once your opponent's Kindle confirms the result.

Open Chess

Opening it on your Kindle

  1. On the Kindle, open the menu and choose Web Browser (on some models it is under Experimental or the … menu).
  2. Type kindlehub.pro into the address bar.
  3. Bookmark it. Nothing to install, no jailbreak, and a firmware update cannot break it.
