How to watch videos on a Kindle (no jailbreak)

A Kindle has no video player and its e-ink screen redraws the whole panel for every change, so normal video cannot play on it. What it can do is show a film as a run of still frames, fast enough to follow.

KindleTube: films as frames

KindleTube, inside KindleHub, plays films from the Internet Archive's free library as real frames taken from the film, at roughly 1 to 5 frames a second depending on the model. It shows the time, a bar you can press to jump around, and subtitles. There is nothing to sign in to and nothing to pay.

YouTube too

KindleTube also plays real YouTube the same way, as frames with no sound. The free plan has a time allowance for YouTube. How to watch YouTube on a Kindle.

What does not work

Opening it on your Kindle

  1. On the Kindle, open the menu and choose Web Browser (on some models it is under Experimental or the … menu).
  2. Type kindlehub.pro into the address bar.
  3. Bookmark it. Nothing to install, no jailbreak, and a firmware update cannot break it.
